Time flies when you’re having fun! Finals week and winter break is approaching faster than you can imagine. Have you thought about how to balance your studies and job responsibilities with the added pressure? See our helpful guidelines below on how you can succeed in the final stretch.
1. Communicate your availability to your supervisor
Plan ahead to balance your work life with your school obligations. One way to decrease your stress during finals week is by creating a flexible work schedule with your supervisor early on. Remember to communicate with your supervisor about your availability if you have any winter break vacations that may interfere with your work schedule. Don’t be afraid to speak up—communication makes it easier for both parties to reach their goals.
2. Create your work schedule for the winter quarter
As the fall quarter is coming to a close, take a moment to reflect upon everything you do. How did your work schedule affect your role as a student? Were you able to manage your time and reach your personal goals with the added responsibilities? These experiences help us learn more about ourselves and what we are capable of. To start off the new quarter, be sure to create your new availability and schedule according to your new classes. We wish you the best of luck!
3. Working over break?
Did you know that some jobs allow you to work over winter break? If you would like to “get this bread” over break, discuss your availability to your supervisor ahead of time. Remember to keep in mind how your living situation and commuting routes will be affected if you choose to work over break.
4. Be proactive and stay committed
This is the final stretch before you start your winter break. Remember why you are here in college! All your work, dedication, and time is an investment in your future career. It’s easy to get sidetracked but always stay committed to your goals as a student. On a final note, work hard, play hard!
