Many UC San Diego students receive federally funded work-study awards as part of their financial aid package.  The Career Center facilitates two work-study programs each year. These programs enable off-campus non-profit, governmental, community-based agencies and schools to hire students at a significant salary savings.

The Non-Profit Partnership is federally funded by the government. These community service work-study positions provide services designed to improve the quality of life for community residents. These positions may serve UC San Diego students, faculty and staff, low income individuals, or those who benefit from:

  • Health care, child care, literacy training, education (including tutorial services), transportation, public safety, crime prevention and control, recreation and community improvement.
  • Support services for students with disabilities.
  • Mentoring activities such as tutoring, educational and recreational activities or counseling including career counseling

  • Boys and Girls Club of San Dieguito (BGCSD)
  • SALK
  • Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute (SBP)
  • The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI)
  • Veteran’s Medical Research Foundation
  • La Jolla Playhouse
  • CA Medical Innovation Institute

The Reading/Math Tutoring Program is also federally funded by the government. These community service work-study positions allow students to work as reading tutors with pre-K through 5th grade students and/or for family literacy programs or as a math tutor, K through 8th grades assisting schoolchildren in developing or improving their reading and/or math skills in schools and other nonprofit organizations.
